Main Function

The Staff Electrotechnical Officer (SETO) is responsible for the supervision, maintenance, and safe operation of all electrical and electronic equipment onboard the vessel, including both the Engine Room and shipwide systems. The role ensures operational reliability, safety compliance, and efficient coordination of the electrical team.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience at sea in a similar position (Cruise, Ro-Pax, Ro-Ro, Ferry, Container, Bulk Carrier vessels of mid to large size)
  • Certificate of Competency III/6 (ETO)
  • Compliance with STCW 95 requirements for this position
  • Valid seafarer documentation (including visas as required)
  • Valid Panama Seaman Book
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken)
  • Additional languages are considered an advantage (Italian, Portuguese, German, Spanish, Russian, French)
  • Good supervisory and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented and multicultural environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and crisis management ability
  • MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee maintenance of all electrical and electronic equipment onboard the vessel and in the Engine Room
  • Supervise, assign, and coordinate duties of electricians and electronic team members
  • Monitor ongoing work, ensuring compliance with technical standards and safety procedures
  • Ensure efficient use of manpower, materials, and resources
  • Inspect completed work to guarantee quality and compliance
  • Support the Chief Engineer in daily technical operations and planning
  • Ensure proper use, storage, and inventory control of electrical materials and spare parts
  • Prepare requisitions for spare parts and consumables
  • Ensure compliance with all Safety Management System (SMS) procedures, work permits, and risk assessments
  • Conduct training and supervision of assigned personnel, ensuring safe working practices
  • Oversee proper waste disposal in accordance with international, national, and company regulations
  • Ensure accurate reporting and completion of all required technical documentation
  • Maintain high standards of safety, discipline, and guest consideration onboard
